Biography
Anne Curran is a visual artist based in Co Wicklow, Ireland. Anne has graduated from The National College of Art and Design with Visual Arts Practice, where she was awarded The Grand Prize for her installation in her final year of sculpture in the graduate Exhibition. Her other studies have embraced sculpture, drawing and most noteworthy Encaustic Painting. Her practice now is around paper sculpture, painting, monotype printing, and each of her disciplines involves Encaustic.
Anne has exhibited in Solo and Group shows, and her works that have been selected include The National Botanical Gardens, Dublin “Sculpture in Context , The Gallery of Modern Art, Waterford, The Royal Ulster Academy of Arts 139th RUA Annual Exhibition, Belfast , The Courthouse Gallery, Co Clare and other exhibitions.
Anne has been selected for The Scottish Royal Academy of Art, Edinburgh for the 196th Annual Exhibition 2022.
Anne in 2022 has received a scholarship to attend The International Encaustic Conference Cape Cod, Massachusetts ,USA. This was awarded by The International Encaustic Organisation. Anne is a recipient of a Jurors Award from an International Encaustic Artists Juried Exhibition, USA with her Jurors awarded piece. This was exhibited virtually and published in “Vignettes in Wax and Words” digital magazine in USA. Another publication of her work inspired by the pandemic was published in “Wax Fusion”, a magazine of International Encaustic Artists.
Anne is currently involved in 2022 in a number of collaborative projects, one of which is The Diptych Project: Transatlantic Fusion NEW ENGLAND WAX and EUROPEAN ENCAUSTIC ARTISTS which culminates in a publication including her works and an Exhibition at The Commons Gallery, Provincetown, MA, USA in June 2022. A future exhibition in Basel, Switzerland is also planned.
Anne has been awarded funding in 2022 from The Arts Council of Ireland to further her practice.
Anne is a member of Visual Artists of Ireland, Artists Network Dunlaoghaire, Co.Dublin, Signal Arts Centre Co Wicklow, Gallery of Modern Art Waterford, and a member of Artists Connect, a Wicklow County Council artists development initiative. She is a member of The International Encaustic Artists Organisation, California, US and part of Catalyst Art Lab, an international community of artists.
Anne’s work is held in private and corporate collections across Ireland and Europe.
